I recently had to ship my XBOX to Microsoft because it broke. They sent me back a brand new model. This is fine, but my gamertag was saved on the Memory Unit, so I'm forced to recover it.
When I try to recover it, it asks for my Windows Live ID e-mail and password. I fill it out, and a message pops up saying ''This Windows Live ID is associated with a different gamertag''. So, just to make sure it is indeed the right password and e-mail, I log onto the Windows Live website, and sure enough, I can log into the site using the same e-mail and password that XBOX Live said was one not associated with the gamertag.
However, if I give XBOX LIVE my XBOX.com username, along with the same e-mail and password, I can recover it. But I never use the gamertag on XBOX.com, so it's pretty pointless. I want the same gamertag I used with my old XBOX, because I had all my achievements and friends.
Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong? I've searched on the internet for hours and haven't found out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for the help! Can't recover gamertag!! Please help!!

yeah it is.
Well there goes my only thought. My only suggestion is to go to xbox.com, click on contact info and make sure you are using the email address listed to recover your gamertag. Other than that, I'm lost...sorry.
its alright...anyone else know??
