your chances of getting RROD with a new system now, are pretty slim. How do I prevent the Red Ring of Death?

^this. Plus if you take care of your system it hardly gonna get rrod. Just keep it fresh and clean and install your games for a better performance.
If your 360 is going to get RROD, then it's going to get it.
You can take sensible precautions to avoid it though - ensure none of the ventilation holes are blocked, and that there is a good supply of fresh air to cool it - don't put it in an enclosed media cabinet, as it does generate a lot of heat, and recirculating the same air will make RROD more likely.
Anyway if you are buying a brand new model 360 then you have a greatly reduced chance of RROD compared to launch models. There is also the extended 3 year warranty against RROD and E74, and a 1 year warranty against everything else.
Don't worry about it because it's not likely to happen with the new models and if it does your covered for 3 years. Just play it and enjoy it.
Newer models don't have the problem. Just take care of your console, keep it clean, etc. Also, install as many games as you can. This keeps the console from being so loud and it reduces wear and tear on the system, which means it will last longer. :)

The newer the 360, the less chances of problems. I bought a launch 360 that I had to send in for repair 3 times. I then bought an HDMI 360 in September 2007 and have had zero issues with it. I got a MW2 console last week and don't expect a single issue with it.My only advice is never buy a used Xbox 360. Buy a new one from a store like Best Buy, Amazon or Gamestop and you should be good to go.
In Soviet Russia RROD prevents YOU!...from playing games. Actually it does everywhere else too.

Always kept mine well ventilated and yet it happened while I was watching a dvd of all things.
Put water in it when you play to cool it down :P (OF COURSE IT'S A JOKE)
you are most likely not to get it if you have a newer model
just take care of it and dont let it over heat put it somewhere where it cool down or air out quickly
